Hello, my name is William Kelley, and my last official project was about four months ago as of this posting...
I got really burned out after finishing the Cyber-Monkey for my Brother.
Throughout the whole process there was a lot of trying new things, failing several times, finally getting it to work, and then repeat the same journey over another part. I'm not sure if it was the repetitive failures, the tediousness hours of second guessing myself or the plain fact that it took so long. I accept that I made the Cyber-Monkey to the best of my ability, but I know where all the flaws are and it irks me to no end. The final part the really got to me was when I posted it online, there was not much response towards it. Not even comments from Internet Hacks that just want to shit all over someone else's creativity. I shouldn't give a damn if people like it or not, but it does feel like I'm wasting my time.
So, here I am. Back again, typing into the void of a public journal. Strangely enough, I find that if I capture what happens during the week I retain more information. I have been planning of getting back to this about a month and a half ago, but it was the Holidays and I was far too busy with my paying job. Too recap what I've been doing with Blender, I did have a plan to create a Suburban Cul-de-sac. I got so far as creating three houses, the street, a garbage can and mailbox. The problem came when I asked myself: "Why am I creating this?" Granted, I found it satisfying building my house and the other two, and seeing them side by side, but I didn't want to go down another rabbit hole if I'm not sure what the outcome will be. After that, I got trapped into Lucas territory and decided to re-make one of my models. My bookshelf model looked good, but I knew I could do it better. Sure, I started making it like the original, but it grew into a whole bookcase. In addition, I knew if the books were UV Unwrapped I can make the covers on Photoshop.
One of the other things I realized is that I'm not very productive. So, I'm looking into studying Project Management. Hopefully, I can start a project with a better plan.
